Beyond Art
TheStoneBible is an Artwork which combines 3 things – The Holy Bible with the old and the new Testament, over 630 photos and pictures and Stone. Once TheStoneBible is completed, there are going to be 630 pages made of stone, engraved with the text of the Bible in the front and pictures and photos on the back. With over a ton of weight, it will be the heaviest Bible in the World.
The basic criterion is the quality and exclusivity of the artwork, its humanistic character and contribution to cultural, national, language and religious tolerance, its existential, timeless character and its ability to hand over a testimony about our times.This project becomes alive through community, transparency, durability, sustainability and dialog.
The Mission
The primary goal is the creation of the heaviest Holy Bible in the world full with pictures showing the world in the early 21 st. century – a testimony of our time – longlasting, community based, international.
The organization of a worldwide exhibition of this community based artwork is the second goal. Specific attention will be paid to the informative and artistic aspects. We want the act of exploring of TheStoneBible, the text and the pictures equally, to be an outstanding experience for the visitors of the exhibition. What a great way to discover the bible – again.
Networking is another important issue. We want to meet people, learn more about their great projects which help to make this world a lot or even just a little better. Sharing ideas, “Building Bridges”, expanding knowledge and supporting other projects – this is what drives us.
The Material
The Stone we use for the pages is black slate. Each page is 30×40 cm and 0,5cm thick. Slate is an ecological material, with local availability. The stone will be engraved with laser technique. So TheStoneBible can become a fantastic book with practically indefinite durability. Get more information about slate.
The Pictures
The pictures will be crowdsourced. Show us and the world how you see the world. What is important to you – a great project, architecture, art or simply just one of the million ways we live in the year 2013. You can choose the page of the Bible on which you would like to see your picture and you can vote for other pictures you like. Tell us the story behind your picture!
